As it was getting closer to Darrell's birthday I wanted to do something special, but he made me promise to not do a surprise party or anything that would put a lot of attention on him.
I promised- and then started planning a little getaway instead. We haven't left all the kids and had a trip with just the two of us, and I knew he would LOVE that kind of surprise.
We have some great friends who were so kind to keep our girls. We had all four at different houses and I don't think the girls missed us for one minute.
We stayed at Lookout Lodge in Eureka Springs. I laughed when they were walking us to our room and she said "Your room is on the Private Adult Level." K- I think I blushed!:)
If you know me and Darrell then you will know we are kind of picky about how clean hotel rooms are- this place was one of the cleanest places we've stayed. It was decorated in a cabin/rustic type decoration.
Darrell just wanted to relax- no major planning of things- just watch the Olympics with out interruption, read without interruption...
We saw a few of the touristy things, shopped, visited the "Giant Jesus" saw the "Glass Chapel" touched part of the Berlin wall, and went through a cave.
The tallest Jesus in the US- who would have guessed it's just an hour away from our house?!
10x10 of the Berlin Wall
"The Glass Chapel"- the Thorncroft Chapel
It was all glass, it was so peaceful and gorgeous
The headphones we wore to hear about the Onyx Cave
"The Elephant"
"The Dragon"
We had so much fun- Darrell kept commenting how relaxed I was. I used to laugh all the time, but this whole parenting thing has really started overwhelming me. My kids don't really know the "fun" me- they know the naggy, grouchy, loving, and sometimes funny mom. I want to change that. Not just for them, but for Darrell, and for myself. I need to remember to enjoy my girlies more instead of letting myself become stressed and overwhelmed.
While we were checking out the shopping area of Eureka Springs I saw a Sock Shop. I have always LOVED weird and funny socks. Darrell wanted to stop so I could go in, but it was HIS weekend and I wouldn't let him. He drove passed it and with me protesting turned around and dropped me off so he could go find a parking spot. I love my husband- he knew how much I was really dying to go in.
We found socks for me- cute piggie ones, and then I saw a couple that screamed my girls names.
My kids have also inherited my love for fun socks and it was so funny to see socks that we knew they'd love.
Can you guess who's socks are whose?
The girls we so excited for the socks- I mean WAY excited.
The ballet socks were the first ones we saw- they are so Baylee.
The Beagle socks are definitely Ashlee- she is a big animal lover.
Lexi just loves any kind of sock and she really likes green and purple- they didn't have any purple socks so she got green frogs.
Carly- my 7 year old who acts like a 15 year old. She is often heard saying things like BRB or BFF..
Happy Birthday Darrell- we love you!! While talking about turning another decade older and feeling older his comment was, "I was sore when I woke up yesterday, and I was sore when I woke up today."
See the next post for our list of 40 things we love about him
