Since it's the end of the month and Darrell and I both have slacked on Home and Visiting Teaching I decided to make texas sheet cake to take to our families. We had 4 plates to deliver. We delivered the first plate and started driving to the next. As we drove down Greenhouse Rd for those of you who are not here- it is a residential street, lots of new home building and some old and fields in between. We had just passed a subdivision and were slowing to turn and Darrell and I both noticed something brown, and thought it was a dog. Then BAM!!
Look at how close it was to Carly's window! We've only had her in a backless booster- we are putting the back on because obviously you never know when something's gonna come at ya!

Here is some deer saliva- how nasty is that?!

If a DNA sample was needed we'd have everything- here's hair also!

We stopped and looked and one deer was hopping across the road and another was in the middle of the road twitching- ewww! We were so shocked- it's like 6:00 in the evening- not dark at all! Both deer were running full speed down a residential street- what the heck were they doing?! We pulled over and looked at the back of the car and were shocked! Luckily it was further back or a head would have been through Carly's window. The impact was hard enough Carly lost an earring, and Lexi got a really bad head ache. We went over to look at the deer, and it was dead by then. The girls were sad for him- he had little nubs so we know it was a him. But we just started laughing! A lady was outside weeding her yard and Darrell was telling her, she was very surprised and told us her sons had just told her a deer ran through the back yard and she told them to quit lying- no deers ever are over there! I'm glad we had a good sense of humor- the $500 deductible for insurance is really going to stink though!
So the moral of the story? Don't wait till the end of the month to do Home and Visiting Teaching or random deers might come ram your car!
We also had to have a little anatomy lesson on deers. The girls were begging to see there deer so after delivering the rest of the plates we drove back. By the way, ANOTHER deer was there wandering on the side of the road! We drove passed and slowed down and Ashlee asked, "How did the deer get a hole in the back of it?" I looked and what she was seeing was it's booty! I told her that it was it's booty and that's where it poops. She was very confused at why we could see the booty hole! Why do my kids have to be so observant?!
I will post pictures of the deer later- Darrell has them on his work phone. Don't worry, nothing graphic, gory and not of it's booty!

Insane. Of course that it the luck! I swear. I am glad everyone is okay.
That is weird - Carrie and I were just doing our visiting teaching and passed you guys on Greenhouse...on the way back we saw the dead deer too. Small world huh? We felt sorry for it but now I feel more sorry for you and your car. Good luck!
I bet you do your visiting/home teaching alot earlier next month! Texas bar cake sounds so yummy right now.....
holy hannah!! When Darrell called, we were like wow-but then those pictures show how hard it hit!!
Its a good thing that there are no deers here in town! I plan to do my teaching this week! I hoping for Wednesday. How frieghtning!
I saw your car tonight - the pictures didn't even do it justice! Scary!!
That is CRAZY! I love your moral though. Pretty funny!
That is so crazy!!! Aleast you attempted to finish your visiting and home teaching. You still have a couple of days though. One excuse is as good as another. J/K. Hopefully you were able to salvage the Texas Sheet Cake. Gotta love those deer. We get a herd in our backyard every winter. They can become a bit of a nuisance. So glad that you guys are okay. Hopefully the rest of your week goes better.
I cannot believe that a deer hit you! That's so crazy! Dumb deer. Glad you are all ok. But your poor car!
That is funny. All winter long there have been about five deer living down a little hill from the main road by our house. Every day I drive on that road we say hi to the deer and I worry about hitting them, but I have never seen any dead on the road. Somehow they have stayed off a really busy street. That is really unlucky that it hit you.
Yikes! I had my own fender bender in the Sequoiathe other day and I am not looking forward to the deductible. Thank goodness ours is only $250.00
Did you eat it? I have some good recipes for deer meat! Just kidding. I'm glad you're all okay. Tell Darrel that's not how you hunt.
