The Stairs Stayed but....

Thursday night we had fabulous storms again! Darrell woke me up around 3:30 and said the storms were getting bad- unfortunately I didn't hear him- I was sound asleep. He came in again and realized I hadn't woken up- by then we had been told we had 13 minutes to seek shelter, so he made sure I woke up that time. He had already gotten the older girls up, and I went and woke Carly up. Did I mention how I hate being woken up in the middle of the night- but I hate even more to wake my kids up! The news said the storm was about 3 minutes away- and then the power went out! UGG!! So the debate of do we get in the closet or not started.

Do you see why we debate about getting in? It's tiny! The blanket is on the floor to soften the hard wood floor!

The storms usually just go over us- luckily, but we decided to get in with the girls. Lexi and Ashlee had stayed pretty calm until the power went out, then there were a few screams. We sat in the tiny closet and turned on flashlights. Ashlee found a Friend magazine on the Tornado box, and asked if she could read us a story to help ease their nerves. After a quick prayer we listened to her read. Then Lexi started telling knock knock jokes. If anyone's kids are over the age of 5 they understand how knock knock jokes go on FOREVER and EVER- and one or two are funny- the others make no sense! We stayed in for about 20 minutes and figured it was safe- the power was still out.

Darrell looked out the window and said, "Well, the stairs stayed but the trampoline is gone." My brother- in- law, Christian built these stairs to the trampoline, and they are HEAVY! It's great to have them, until you have to move them. There was no way were were going outside to look for the trampoline then- the lightening was CRAZY! We had everyone in our room to go back to sleep, and at 6:30 the power came back on, and the storm was completely gone. We found our trampoline over a little hill in the lot next door. The lot looks trashy since they haven't finished building- I can't wait for it to be done!! We put the trampoline back together and it's in quite a sad shape, but it still works. We are going to use it till it collapses, it's our only backyard entertainment. We have decided we are also going to tie the trampoline to the stairs from now on- then it won't be blown away again.

Ah, the joys of living in Arkansas, huh? I didn't realize that they had a warning out, because just as I was going to check the news, the power went out and I was hoping that if a tornado was comming, that the sirens would go off, and they never did. I was surprised that morning how many trees and power lines were down! It's a mess!

That is crazy!! Glad you and your family are safe. It sounds so tiring as well. That can't be fun. Again glad you are okay.

Surprisingly, I didn't wake up until 4:30 -- right when it got BAD-- and for once we DIDN"T lose power, so I just followed the news for about 30 minutes and then went back to bed! Our kids never even woke up...

Glad to hear it was only your trampoline, and the storm moved very fast!!

Holy Cow! I can't believe winds can be so strong to move things like a trampoline! Glad you and your family were safe.

That's nuts! I can't imagine having to fit our whole family in a closet and keep them happy....you're smart to have a toronado box :)

Wowza! And that's to the deer and the storm. We've been really lucky about being just outside of damage's grasp in these storms. You guys have really been getting hit hard. This year we've mostly just been making them in Oklahoma, and then sending them your way to mess things up. I can't believe the deer story. That is so crazy!

That is a pretty scarey thing to grow up with, your daughters are going to be so tough! I'm glad the trampoline didn't crash into anyone's house.

Wowser!!! I guess it's a great place to live if you are working on emergency preparedness. I am sure you are pretty prepared for just about anything. You will have to give me some tips on being prepared. We are working on that although we have not been as close to needing it as you have. Glad you guys are safe (yet again). must be doing something right.
