Making Dinner

Each of the girls are suppose to make dinner alone one night this summer, and Lexi and Ashlee both had their turn this week.

Lexi was so excited to be able to be alone in the kitchen, I tend to hover sometimes. She browned the hamburger, seasoned it, cut tomatoes, added sauce, and boiled the noodles by herself. She had so much fun mixing it all together with the noodles. She was a little surprised when I told her we needed more sides, and asked her to find things to go with her dinner. She grabbed frozen vegetables and frozen rolls- perfect! By the way, if you haven't had the frozen Sister Shubert's roll's- try them, they are so good!!
Here is Chef Lexi with her meal!
Ashlee has not had as much time in the kitchen and was a little nervous for me to leave her alone. I stayed in with her to coach her and keep reminding her she can do it. She was a little freaked out with the scrambled eggs- she thought she was doing something wrong- I told her they just look nasty for a while. She also got to make hash browns and sausage. She loved it and is so excited to help more in the kitchen.

They both learned a lot more then how to make food. They learned it's hard to multitask. Having one thing cook isn't so hard, but when you have timers going off constantly while something needs stirring, it gets a little frazzling for them. They also saw how hard it is to make dinner- so when someone complains after you have worked so hard, it's really bothersome.
But I think both of their favorite part was wearing my apron and being in charge!

What a great idea. I'm not sure my girls could do this. Good for you for teaching your girls this very valuable skill while they are so young.
