Lexi and Ashlee had their TREC showcases a few weeks ago. I can't say enough great things about the TREC program! The girls get to be challenged in so many different ways- and taught to be more self reliant on completing tasks and figuring hard things out by themselves.
Lexi is typing her own summary of what she learned in TREC on Law.
In my Law Unit my favorite thing I got to do was go to a trial at the Benton county Courthouse at the square. We also got a tour of the courthouse, led by the bailiff. The judge we saw was Judge Xollie Duncan. We had 3 different lawyers come at talk about their jobs. There was a Prosecutor, Defender, and a Private Attorney.
For the showcase we were split into two groups and then each of those groups was split into two teams, Defense and Prosecution. I was put onto the Defense team. We had to come up with a fairy tale trial. our group chose Rapunzel, and the prosecution charged Rapunzel's step-mother Evilla S. Orceress with Child Abuse and False Imprisonment. We worked on this for weeks and finally presented it to our parents for our showcase night. I was supposed to just be a lawyer, but someone didn't show up so I ended up having to be a witness also, Dr. Smart E. Pants. We wanted to make this doctor sound smart! When we rehearsed our trial a couple of days before showcase night my team won, but when we showed our case to the parents my team lost, well not exactly. In a criminal trial the whole jury has to vote the same, but for both the rehearsal and showcase neither team had all jury members vote in their favor so we really had a tie. Over all, I had a great time in Law and I am looking forward for my next unit at TREC!
Ashlee learned about Making Of America, and she will also type a quick summery of what her favorites were and what she did for her showcase.
I learned about how the Oregon Trail affected lives. I had to pretend I was a pioneer ,there were fates about what would happen to your train. We chose what indian tribe to do a 3-d report on. We had to do a report on a famous person, I did Elisabeth Blackwell. Then we started on our final projects. I sewed and stuffed a snake.
At showcase our parents listened to our two reports. We also did a fate, our parents did a wagon masters sheet.
