We had an interesting Friday last week. Let me give you a few details before I start. I know I've talked about how wimpy Ashlee can be, well she started complaining Thursday she wasn't feeling well. I pretty much ignored her, and said she's fine. That night she woke up saying her ear hurt, I wasn't very happy- but again figured she's kinda wimpy- gave her Motrin and back to bed we went. I had been told that at a park down the street they were doing free flu shot's to anyone, practicing if they ever have to do mass immunizations. I got the girl's ready- of course I wasn't telling them what we were doing, but they kept asking why they couldn't ride the bus. I finally said we were going to have some girl bonding time and then I'd run them to school. Lexi didn't by it- but Ashlee was so excited, but still complaining of her ear. After more Motrin we got to the park at 7:45- they were starting shot's at 8:00. It was a little different, it was a drive thru clinic. You stay in your car and fill out the paper work- they open the doors on the car and shoot everyone up. There were about 15 cars there before me, so I got out and asked a lady if she knew why we were parked in parking spots, not in a line waiting. She said that's what they told her to do. As I was walking back an old lady was hollering at me to come here. I walked over and there sat what you would picture people looking like when you say you live in Arkansas. She had no teeth- really, none! Was about 70ish, and was in a bathrobe, with a nasty fungus looking growth on her nose. She informed me she was the first in line and had been waiting for a while. I said OK- I was just wondering how they were going to start it. I think she thought I worked there or something. Anyway, I went back to my car and waited a few more minutes. Pretty soon a suburban pulled up and blocked all of us that had been there already. That started something- then a van pulled up behind it. I was bugged- it's just wrong to cut in front of people when you know other's were first. This old lady rammed the van! Not just once, not twice, but three times! I was laughing so hard! She got out yelling that she was first and those people needed to get back. The man working there started moving all of us forward, since it was now 8:00. Holy cow- was she mad! Lexi and Ashlee were so shocked someone would get that mad. I had brought the DVD player to entertain the kids- I thought we'd be waiting for hours. Turns out phsyco lady provided us with plenty of entertainment! We were told to pull forward, and the old lady got in her car and started to butt her way in our line. I stopped- a flu shot was not worth a wrecked car. The worker stepped out and told her she had to say put until the police got there. After many swear words she kept yelling she was first- one track mind I guess! Anyway he finally told her she didn't deserve to be first since she caused an accident. We went through and it took 20 minutes and I had the kids to school by 8:30- they were only a half hour late. Oh, Lexi figured out about the shot's and they weren't thrilled- but they did so good! Seriously they opened all the car doors, made sure I filled out my paperwork and 4 nurses came up and gave us a shot at the same time. They buckled Carly back in and sent us on our way- NO TEARS!! They did great!
I got home and started the normal morning routine, and then laid Carly down at 12:00 for her nap. The phone rang and it was the school saying Ashlee had an earache and a low fever- come get her. I felt bad- I didn't know the poor kid had a fever, I swear I'm a bad mom! Ashlee was in tears when I got there and the nurse said her ear looked pretty bad. I went home and called the doctor- they couldn't get me in until 4:45. Ashlee cried the whole time, until we finally got in with the Nurse Practitioner. The doctor had been called out on emergency C- Section, so it was already 5:30 when they got us back there. I had heard BAD things about this NP- and wasn't happy to have her- I really like the Doctor. She looked at Ashlee and said, "Stop crying, I can't stand big kid tears!" I was a little shocked, but thought maybe she thought she could get her to calm down. They took her temp- over 104 degree's! She started looking in her ear and said she had major wax build up. She tried cleaning them, but couldn't get it out. Ashlee was crying pretty hard because she was digging in her ears. The NP said she needed to water pick it, but she could see both ears were infected. Ashlee was near hysterics after all the digging, and twee zing. They came in with the water pick and Ashlee lost it! I started to stand up, and the NP got in Ashlee's face and said, "LOOK AT ME! This isn't going to hurt- it's just uncomfortable!" Umm... like that's going to make her feel better! They started on the first ear and Ashlee was screaming- I have never felt so helpless to one of my kids! After they got the wax out, they went to start on the next ear. Ashlee was sobbing and holding her ear. I pushed the NP out of the way and told her Ashlee needed a hug from her mom- my ear was hurting just watching how they were digging with the water pick! We got through the next ear and then she said- yep both look bad. DUH- we already knew that! Why couldn't we just give antibiotics and ear drops to soften the wax?! I now knew what everyone was talking about with this lady- she was horrible! Why in the heck is she wanting to be a pediatrician if she can't stand big kid tears!
That was our Friday- it wasn't the greatest. Darrell had promised the girl's to be able to go with him to the High School Football game- that's what you do on Friday nights here. Ashlee of course couldn't go- and so we had a movie night with popcorn. She fell asleep the first 5 minutes, but it made her feel like she was doing something fun.
Lexi LOVES the games- not just the cheerleader's- the actual game! She has explained parts of the game to me! Darrell is so proud when his girls' get into sports with him and talk about it with him. Soon he'll have to start taking Carly too! I'll have to take pictures of the football field- it's HUGE! Wal- Mart sponsors the team, so the players are spoiled.
Sorry there are no pictures on this blog- I wanted so bad to take pictures of the flu shot excitement- but didn't dare- she might have come after me!

Loved your stories Alissa---your life is so entertaining!!
I can't believe the old hag rammed another car 3 times!! She must really want her flu shot :)
Friday night football games make me homesick...that is definitely what everyone did for entertainment in Texas. Curious: at your football games do they serve frito pies?
You DEFINATELY live in Arkansas.....just kidding! That is crazy! I can't believe that they just open your doors and vaccinate you. So funny!
Poor Ashlee. Why did they have to water pick it? They knew the other one was infected so just give her the stupid antibiotics and see what happens. That is what I would do if I was a pediatrician.
I don't really understand those people that go into professions that deal with kids but they obviously don't have any empathy for them. It always seems wierd to me.
I found your blog! I'm so sorry to read (and hear) about your story... it is so heart wrenching! I hope we see you tomorrow!
That is CRAZY!! Love your story. Sorry about Ashley, that isn't fun at all.
Funny stories. I hope you have a better day tomorrow! It was funny to hear about the southern old lady with no teeth, because we also see them all around down here. We also see a lot of people with Gold teeth and then we know they are really classy!
