Every morning I make my kids breakfast, and then start making lunches. I know they must be getting tired of the same things over and over- they haven't complained yet, but I know eventually it will come. This is what I put in each day..
- Sandwich- either peanut butter or bologna- they LOVE them
- Fruit snacks
- crackers
- gogurt or yogurt
- fruit or veggie, apple, orange, carrots, or celery
- water bottle
- Snack cake- Little Debbie type thing
I know it sounds like a lot of food- they have half hour lunches and then a half hour for recess. They eat at about 6:30, then have lunch 10:30- Caleb, 11:00- Ashlee, 11:30- Lexi. they don't get home until 3:40- so I give them extra so they are not starving by the end of the day. It has not worked- they get home and are starving, but have plenty of left overs in their lunch boxes. They get so excited when I let them buy their lunches because it's so different them what I'm sending, but I can't afford to pay for them often- it's $2.25 for lunch!
So if anyone has any tips of what they do, please share. I'm looking for VERY inexpensive ideas- we are still trying to adjust to 5 kids- HOLY COW is it expensive! I don't mind eating the same thing each day- right now it's a turkey sandwich and carrots- before i was doing Body For Life it was peanut butter and jelly. Who knows maybe my kids are like me and don't care if they eat the same thing, but I'm always open for ideas!

My kids like to take a thermos. We only have one, and they trade off taking it every other day. They take spaghettios, ramen noodles, chicken noodle soup, mac and cheese. The stuff is all under $1. It gives them a little variety.
Sorry, no suggestions because it is mac and cheese here. Everyday if I would let them. But is sounds like a good lunch to me. I guess keep doing it til they say they are sick of it. Love ya.
You're good to pack their lunches - I make Porter fix his own the night before (I help, of course). But this way, although we have certain things that we buy, he decides what's going in his lunch. Usually it's a sandwich of PB&J or Ham & Cheese, and then he decides a few things from granola bars, apples, carrots, fruit snacks, cheese sticks, chips, or any other thing we have. With him making the choices, he takes what he likes, and he can mix it up if he likes as well. Good luck!!
First, kudos to you for making homemade lunches every morning for 4 kids!!! I would too if lunches cost $2.25!!! Luckily ours is only $1.40.
When my kids take their lunch it sounds similar to yours. Zachary is a big fan of lunch meat but hates them on sandwiches (weird I know) so sometimes he'll take just one of those little packets of Buddig lunch meat. If lunchables are on sale, sometimes I'll buy those. I've also heard you can wrap up a warm hot dog & bun in foil and it will still be warm by lunch time. Zach also loves to take those Jello cups, granola bars, fruit cups. The thermos idea is a great one too!!
When I made my kids lunches, I usually did what you do. To mix it up I would make our own lunchables (Ritz, cheese, lunchmeat). i really like the friut cups, so do my kids. Ryan liked taking cold pizza! Yuck! they beg for homemade lunches, but we only pay 1.50. I only have two to buy for though. That thermos idea is a good one.
Your lunches sound pretty much like ours here. I think most kid's lunches are like that. I love that she comes home with leftovers because then I don't have to worry about an after school snack!
The school lunches cost us 2 bucks and so I only let them pick one day a week that they can buy lunch. They always look forward to that day and so do I! We usually have the whole month picked out in advance to make sure they get to buy on the days they have their favorite foods, like pizza. I wish that they could buy everyday because one of the things I hate is making lunches in the morning. I guess I could make them at night but I am too tired!
But we also do the thermos thing and I have only done soup. But I like the mac and cheese idea in there. That would be a crowd pleaser.
Sounds like a lot to think about. I'm glad I don't have to worry YET. It will be interesting to see what I sent with my kids in their lunch! Good job!
