So Many Things, So Little Time!

There have been so many times I've wanted to sit down and blog- but time was not my friend this weekend! We had a great weekend! Oh, wait, I need to back track! Thursday night was book group, the book? Breaking Dawn of course! It took some time but I finally have some friends here that are as obsessed as I am over these dang books! We had a quiz, the questions were numbered and taped to chess pieces- way cute idea! We had vampire pie, water with frozen strawberries, and lot's of red, black, and white! It was so much fun!!

Saturday a few of us went to see Mama Mia for Aubrey Patterson's birthday. The real show was better, but the movie is still so much fun- love the music!! I had promised the girls after Carly's nap we would go buy them some fish. I had bought a few goldfish Friday afternoon, and the kids were so excited to FINALLY have a pet! Saturday morning 2 of the 3 fish were dead, and I decided I needed a hardier fish! After reading all kinds of things about goldfish I found out they are actually not the easiest fish. I was going to take all 3 girls to Petco and let them choose a fish, one that I agreed on of course!
During the wait my friend Amy came by with a little pet for our family. She brought us a caterpillar! They had one and it formed it's cocoon in a jar, then when it became a butterfly they let it go. We thought that was a pretty cute idea- so she shared her wealth of caterpillar's out of her garden.
Our caterpillar named Adeline- after Adeline Patterson!
After Amy left I was putting the caterpillar down and there was another knock at the door- Amy again. She had a panicked look on her face and told me there was an ambulance at the Patterson's house, Aubrey lives 3 houses up from us- great birthday celebration day surprise for her!:(. I ran out the back door after shouting to Darrell to tell him where I was going. Lexi and Ashlee started crying- Lexi was actually sobbing- she looked horrified! As Amy and I got closer we realized we didn't know what to do. Do you just go up and knock- make sure things are ok, do they need a Priesthood holder to help give a blessing, is it really bad, what we were going to find in there?! Amy finally said I should just go knock. I knocked and Aubrey opened the door and there was the paramedic's holding her little 14 month old Adeline- who was smiling! My heart calmed down, and she she told me Adeline had choked on a penny and a magnet. She looked so frazzled, but you could tell the relief when the paramedic's said Adeline was ok. After staying to comfort Aubrey for a minute Amy and I headed back home, while Aubrey took Adeline in for an X-ray to make sure there were no more magnets in her tummy.
When I got back I could tell Lexi was still really upset. When I told her what happened she told me she was afraid something had happened to one of the parents. To get the kids minds off what happened we decided we better go get some fish. On the way there Lexi was telling me how scared she was again and how she was saying a quiet prayer for the Patterson's. I got kind of choked up and told her I was proud of her for doing that. It feels so good to know that even at 8 kids CAN have a testimony of prayer. As we were talking about the power of prayer, I realized this was a good teaching moment on saying Thankful Prayers. Lexi said a quick thankful prayer that Adeline was safe and ok. It was such a good feeling to be able to teach the kids about prayer, and know that they understood what I was talking about.

So onto our new pets! After talking to the lady at Petco and realizing they do not carry the kind of fish I wanted we had to settle on Betta fish. I have never liked these fish, so was not wanting to buy them. But after realizing how easy they were to take care of I was all for them. Lexi chose a male Betta- named Rainbow Fish- very creative, I know! Ashlee chose a female and named her Queen. Carly has her goldfish she named Kabee, and I bought two more little ones and she named them Blake and Lake. Unfortunately Blake died this morning, and when they are all dead I will be buying her a Betta also!
Rainbow Fish
Queen, she was feeling a little camera shy!

Love the fish! Lexi is such a little sweetie. You are such good parents. This weeks sharing time is on praying anytime, anywhere and I think I will use her as my example. Thanks!!!

That was quite the weekend! Good luck with the fish. Hopefully you'll get at least a couple of months out of the bettas!

How fun! Remember in SLC when Kenna shared her orange soda with our beta fish plant thing we made in RS? That did eventually kill it, but it took a few days. Those things are tough!! Good choice.

Never a dull moment at your house! I love the beautiful colors of your bettas.

You are alway so good to use life moments to teach your girls principles of the gospel. What a great example you are!

My you guys did have a busy weekend! Glad your neighbor is okay. My Zach freaks out everytime he sees an ambulance and always says a quick prayer for whoever is involved.
Fish aren't as easy as everyone thinks! We have a 30 gallon aquarium and we've gone thru alot of fish!

phweew, I am so glad Adeline is okay. Is it harder for the mother or for the child when something happens? I was holding my breath as I read that.
Anyway, my wedding colors were red and black with silver lining. VERY romantic...

Alissa,
You don't know me, but I want to thank you for your comment on Janelle's blog. For some reason, it makes things easier when you know you are not alone in your trials. I wish you and your husband all the best on your journey to discover Heavenly Father's plan. Thank you for your thoughtful comment!

That's sad about the fish. We just had the same problem. At a daddy daughter date, Hillary got a goldfish. I had to buy it a bowl, food, and the water conditioner. $8.00 for all that and the next day it was dead. Hillary cried for about 10 minutes and I promised her a new fish. Guess what she got? A betta! It's a boy, but she named it Maisy anyway. Brian has had one for 2 years now. Good, easy fish!
