Why Have I fought This Battle?!

After 9 years of marriage and fighting a certain battle- I have finally given in! I lost my battle!
I HATED ironing clothes. That's why I was born in a time of wrinkle- free, and dryers! But alas, I have grown tired of the wrinkles on my husbands shirts, wrinkles on my children's clothes, and wrinkles on my clothes. Wrinkle free is a joke! Nothing is truly wrinkle free!
I really fought ironing. Darrell has been wearing polo's to work for years just so I don't have to iron! But when we moved here I knew he would need more dress shirts. I was very good about pulling them out of the dryer warm and hanging them right up, but they just didn't look as good. He never complained- he knew if he wanted to keep his head attached to his shoulders it's best just to appreciate the fact that they were hung up!! A few weeks ago I decided I had had enough! I pulled out the ironing board and went to work. After a mere 20 minutes everything was done! Why have I been fighting this battle of not doing it? It's easier to iron then to run to the dryer to make sure I get the shirts out while they are warm and hang them!
So now after laundry is done and kids are in bed, I iron- and enjoy it! It's very soothing to me. I'm weird, I know!
A very sad thing- Carly asked what the ironing board is and what it was for! In almost 4 years she has never seen me use it! Two years ago when we were in CA, Darrell's Grandma was ironing and Lexi and Ashlee asked her if she would teach them how to use the sewing machine. She didn't understand why they would ask that- then she realized they thought the iron was the sewing machine! Can you tell I don't sew either?! Sad, Sad!! At least they know now what an iron is! Now the sewing machine- that's another story!

I share your hatred for ironing (or your past hatred now). Rhett has to wear white shirts everyday and irons them himself - because that's the only way they get done! I especially love when my mom comes because she does all my ironing for me!

Good for you for doing it - and liking it!!

I haven't quite reached that point yet... I agree that things look better ironed, but I just value my free time too much! But good for you!

Sewing is fun! ....Ironing is not. That's why Ben does his own, and when he doesn't there's a lady in our ward that comes over every two weeks and irons ALL of his dress shirts. I did not ask her to, she volunteered when he was called into the bishopric. I think it was her way of aleviating the burden with the three small kids.

I LOATHE ironing. I don't do it unless I absolutely have to. Poor Marcus also has "developed" a love for Polo shirts. Maybe I should give it a chance...mmm...maybe not. Lol. Good for you!!

Okay, I needed that laugh. My kids know what an iron is, but probably not the sewing machine!! Good for you to start ironing. I hate it. I just hang up the clothes and iron when we need them. Maybe that is why we are always tight on time come Sunday morning? Hmmmm...?

That's so funny because I too hate ironing shirts. it's really not that hard and it doesn't take too long. I don't know what it is about ironing...I always feel guilty though, when Ryan pulls out the ironing board and starts ironing them himself. One of these days, I may be like his mom and do it regularly...Ha...We shall see once our babies are older.

I still don't iron I figure that is why boys go on missions so we don't have to do it when we get married.

Okay, I am glad to report my kids know what both the iron and the sewing machine are. They even know how to use them, at least the older ones. Although I do loathe having to iron. Unfortunately Kyle's clothes for work have to be millitary pressed.

LOL I hate ironing just because I can't never get the wrinkles completely out with an iron either. LOL

Iron hater here too - from day one of our marriage Andrew has ironed his own clothes to make sure they are done to his liking. He irons every morning before work and church. I iron maybe once a week if I'm lucky!
