Baylee has an eye infection- no one else in the house has one, so I don't know where it came from. Last night I was cleaning the goop off her eye with a warm cotton ball, and puss started oozing then squirting out of her eye. I freaked! Darrell was trying to calm me down and the screaming baby, then I started gagging. I don't do well with bodily fluids and especially puss type things. Darrell told me I should try to open her eye, but I was so afraid of what was under her eye lid. I called her doctor, but had to leave a message since it was 9:00pm. I started calling other family members who have gone to medical school- since I can't just sit and wait. I had to feel like I was doing something, and I needed to know if she needed to go to the ER. After talking to two of my family members, I started calming down thinking it was just a clogged tear duct that may have a tiny infection- not a big deal. The doctor called and basically said the same things, but then said if she spikes a fever take her immediately to the ER, the infection could ruin the tissue in her eye and go to the brain. Hello- I am a freakishly paranoid person!! After she said that I was ready to cry- I didn't want anything like that to happen! And of course suddenly my baby felt warm.
I took Baylee's temp, and she was fine, and I started calming down. She wasn't acting funny- she just looked a little like Cyclops with her one eye open and the other one so swollen. We made it through the night, she slept the same- she usually only gets up at 1 and 4. We cleaned her eye and this morning it looks so much better. I took her in to her doctor and they gave me an antibiotic ointment, and she sent some of her eye goop to the lab.
After last night I remember now why I am such a stressed out person when I have a new baby- I freak out over ANY little thing. I don't think this was such a little thing, but I know I will in the future. You wouldn't think I have 4 kids- you would think I am a first time mom with all my questions and concerns- but that's me! My other kids have survived it, and I suppose Baylee will too!
I wonder how many times my kids doctors laugh as I walk out of the office....

We had the same thing happen to PJ when he was 2 days old. I freaked out too. It was just a clogged tear duct. The Dr. told us to kind of massage it to help clear it out when it gets goopy. Our other kids never had that problem. And as far as worrying so much with all your kids--I'm the same way--still worrying just as much with my last as I did with the first! I'm glad Baylee's eye is looking better and it wasn't anything serious. :)
Both of my boys had eye infections when the were a few weeks old. They were also clogged tear ducts. We used to massage them and it really helped. Good luck
The same thing happend to Logan when he was a baby. You can't help to feel sorry for them! Hope she feels better soon!
The puss squirting thing grossed me out just reading about it. I'm glad everything is okay.
I am like you with the worry, especially after having a baby. I think the lack of sleep makes everything more intense. My nephew had the same eye thing. It looked horrible, but it was just a clogged tear duct.
We know a couple moving to the Fayetteville (is that the name?). They are a young couple starting law school. I told them that I knew a family around that area. I don't know if that is your area, but they told me there are only a few stakes in your neck of the woods. Their names are Seth and Natalie Waite. Their dad is Mark Waite who was in the stake presidency when you guys were in the Tule Springs stake.
