Hair Help

I need help ladies!!
My hair is making me crazy and I'm hoping some of you will have some tips for me! I have a lot of hair, it's heavy and very soft. The biggest problem with heavy soft hair is it will NOT hold any shape. It is always flat to my head no matter how much or what kind of product I use. I will admit, I won't spend a ton of money on product because with 4 daughters I spend enough money elsewhere. I have been using Aussie Volumizing shampoo and conditioner, it makes my hair really shiny, but still no shape. I switched to the Suave Professional because it smelled REALLY good, but it made my hair even more flat. I started using Garneir Fructis and I notice a little more volume, but I don't know what to do with it.
I always blow dry my hair upside down, but with my retarded waves I end up having to straighten it back down.
So my friends who I know get up and do their hair each day.... what do you do? What products do you use? What products and supplies would you die without? Help a flat headed friend in need!!

How long is your hair right now? Do you have layers? Do you believe in ratting? About blow drying - once your roots are dry, leave them alone. The more heat they get, the flatter they fall. So when you're blowing out the waves, keep the heat away from the roots. As far as a product - my stylist always uses Root Pump by bigsexyhair before she blow dries my hair. Okay, and do you use a flat iron? You can use it to create volume at the roots.

PS: Does anyone really do their hair every day? I can't imagine. ;)

I have problem hair, but different problems;). And you know what finally helped me? Finding a person to cut my hair that I trust, then telling him to make my hair look good. And you know what else? I SHELL OUT for products that work. No lie. My poor husband. SO- whenever I left the hair salon feeling like a super model, the next time I went in, I would buy the product. And with a good cut that suits my hair, and product that helps the PROBLEMS, my hair has never been better. Halleluyah. Seriously!

I can't believe you posted this! I have admired your hair since the moment I saw you. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

I would go for a shorter hair cut with layers. You can also ask them to use the weird scissors or the razor (I've always called it texturizing). They cut near the roots and those short pieces help create lift and volume. I do it to thin my hair out, but it really does help with the volume up top. The product I use to help form my hair is pomade. I've used Pantene's , right now I'm using Dustin's by Crew. It's a man's product, but it works!

PS BrieAnn, I have to do my hair everyday!!

I have to do my hair everyday or it is REALLY flat to my head. My hair is a liilt epast my shoulders, and i do use a flat iron. I will have to start looking at better product, i suppose sometimes it is worth spending the extra.
I have heard good things about bigsexyhair, I'll have to try it. I use to always use the bed head pomade, but it didn't work, maybe I'll try another kind...
I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks guys! And thanks De Anne- good to know not everyone is thinking my hair is a flat mess!:)

I totally get the flat headed syndrome. It is the story of my life. I only wish I had a few waves, but I agree with BrieAnn. Root Pump by Big Sexy hair is the best I have ever used. Shorter hair and a few layers help. My stick to the forehead straight days are over, unless I don't do my hair. Which unlike my sisters does happen to me occasionlly. Sometimes you just have to wash and go:)

Back in the day when I had the luxury of time, I would use a large curling iron (1.5" diameter)like a flattener, but instead of pulling in downward motions to straiten, I would start at the roots and pull upward, which encourages your roots to stand UP. This in connection with the curling iron size would add body. My hair is really thin and comprises the thickness of a dime in a ponytail, but this always worked for body. Oh yeah, I swear by suave (not professional), everything else is too heavy in my hair and creates total flatness.
