Biggest Highlight of California

I forgot to post the funniest thing that happened while we were in California- yes, even more funny then being asked about male anatomy in the Temple!
When we got to the airport to come home at the end of our fun family trip we all ventured through the metal detectors. The kids for some reason get all shy- walking alone through those detectors can be a bit intimidating?! The girls and I went through and were putting on our shoes before I realized Darrell wasn't with us. I only noticed because his job is to carry the huge heavy back pack and I had to pick it up. I started looking for him and noticed he was in a clear box talking to the security officer. I picked up the annoyingly heavy back pack and the security officer told me to put it down immediately so he can check it. He also had to take Darrell's shoes. We move over to the side since we were blocking the way- but I was trying to figure out what the problem was. Lexi and Ashlee looked horrified and thought Darrell was not going to be able to come home with us. They took Darrell over to the pat down area- where they found his sunglasses in his pocket that he forgot about. That's why the metal detector kept going off, but he was informed it was too late- they had to check everything! I was laughing, the girls were wimpering and I was so wishing I had my camera out- but I didn't know if I was allowed to take pictures of "The Pat Down."
They have special mats at the airport to put your feet on so your legs are spread apart, then they take the wand all over. Poor Darrell not only had the sunglasses that beeped, but his shorts had a belt sewn into them, and it kept beeping also. They kept asking him to take off his belt, and he kept showing them the belt was attached to his shorts. Finally they understood it doesn't come off, and they had him unbutton his shorts and roll the waist so they could feel around the belt and make sure nothing was hidden there. Then with the wand they kept going around him, and asking if he has any sensitive areas. His response was- well, yeah! Finally after about 10 minutes they let him go, much to all of our relief! After I asked him if he would have been bothered if I would have taken pictures- he wouldn't have, so now I'm really kicking myself!
So moral of the story? If you are wearing cargo shorts- Do not put sunglasses in the big pockets where you could forget they are there! The resulting pat down could be entertaining but a little frightening for the children to witness! IT gave many of the people int he airport something to watch also- some people stopped in their tracks wondering if he was a terrorist! I had to laugh at that!

So funny. I know my kids would have thought the same thing. It looks ike you guys had a fun vacation! I'm so jealous. I have yet to see a real beach. The prostate story was great. I think "the older generation" can talk about some crazy stuff. When do your kids start school? We have 2 more weeks. I can't believe summer is almost over.

What a crack? Darrell looks so intimidating!!! Lexie told Kylea about it in her email. I saw it before I read this. She thought it was really funny that the guy asked Darrell if he had any sensitive spots.
