Ahhhhh, finally home from church! Don't get me wrong- I love going to church, but I really struggle with going from 2-5. Sacrament is getting easier, Carly seems to sit better now that she's getting older. And it's always nice when she takes a nap! I also love my calling in nursery, the kids are so sweet. The past few weeks have been a bit rough though. It's hard enough for some of these 18 month olds to come to nursery, but what makes it worse is the time- it's right in nap time! We also have had 3 nursery's until the start of the year. We were thinking each nursery would have around 12 kids until our new building is done in a few months. WRONG! The first week after the new year we realized a few names had been left off our list, taking out Jr. nursery to 14 kids. I thought that may be ok, until a new little boy came that day also, taking us to 15. The room we are in is not big and you can't fit 15 kids around a table! I was chatting with the lady in there with me and as we started counting and figuring things, turns out we are going to have 19 kids in the next few weeks! Uh, that's a bit too many, especially with 3 kids who cry CONSTANTLY!
After talking with the Primary presidency and telling them of our concerns with that many kids and only 2 adults- it just isn't possible. We are going to start doing rotations for nursery now. I can't wait! The kids start in one room, then after a certain amount of time they switch rooms for a new station. It will give us the opportunity to actually feel like we can help teach and spend time with the kids, because it will be a smaller number of kids in each rotation. It's going to be a little rough in the beginning, but I know it will be great for the kids and the adults.
So, back to being so glad to be home. Today we only had 12 of the kids, but 6 cried for about 20-30 minutes until they realized it's fun to play. That left 3 crying after that. Darrell was so nice to come in and see if we needed help- and I was so thankful! One of the little boys let him hold him, and he didn't make another cry- after a quick little nap on Darrell's lap he even started playing! The other 2 little boys calmed down when the other boy did- they tend to feed off each other when they are sad. We got home and I needed some chocolate, but peanut butter sounded good too. I remembered my friend had made peanut butter crackers (with Jif peanut butter- YUM!) and then covered them in chocolate for her christmas plates. I decided to do the same thing, but use melted chocolate chips instead. SO GOOD! They were perfect, we all enjoyed them as our snack, and are now ready for dinner! If I could have chocolate and Jif peanut butter everyday (and not gain 500 pounds!) I would be in heaven!!

I gotta tell you, that rotation in nursery is the BEST invention ever! We have 4 nurseries with about 7 kids in each one. It's not easy staffing that many classes, but totally worth it!!! There are days that I'd give anything to go back and not have to teach gospel doctrine. Oh well, I'm sure it won't be long before I'm back in Primary. It seems to be my calling in life.
I hope it's not mine that cries the whole time
2-5!!! That's nuts. Get a zone variance.:) I had the 1-4 reverse schedule and I HATED it. Yes, I used that word because it's true. Maybe we will come to your side of the world, but I'm afraid it would cost a fortune to load all the equipment.
Nursery is such a challanging calling - bless your heart for sticking through it. I personally think it's one of the greatest callings - who wouldn't want to play, sing songs, eat snacks, and take your shoes off during church??!
P.S. Send some of those chocolate-covered-peanut-butter crackers my way!!
I'm so excited we are both having girls! I didn't realize that you are actually due 3 days after me. From something Julie or Salena said I thought you were due a week or two before me! June 10!! I say we have both of these girls early! Each week is a huge accomplishment! I'll stop whining about church from 1-4! 2-5 would probably do me in! Kudos to you!
When Kyle and I were in the nursery we did rotation. It was great. You were only in charge of one thing; lesson, snack or toys. I worked out great. We have several nursery classes in our ward too. It's crazy. Good Luck.
I have no doubt that Nursery workers will receive a special place in Heaven!!! I don't know how you do it, especially with that time. Like Janelle said, we thought 1 - 4 was bad...I can't even imagine going an hour later!
I had to cringe with each line that I read about nursery (okay, there were a few small laughs too), knowing that several of those instances had to be at least one of my kiddos, if not both. You guys really are amazing!!!! I always feel bad leaving them in there, or for knowing that you guys have to listen to them, but maybe the stations will work better for you guys. I hope so!!!! We love you both for loving on our little ones, even when they're not being very lovable!!!!
2-5? Do you have that many wards there? Crazy! I always need the chocolate after stress. Peanut butter with it sounds yummy!
I feel your pain Alissa, although our numbers have dropped since the beginning of the year. The rotation schedule is so nice but our building is too full to accomodate that. We now average 6-8 kids every week but nursery zaps all my energy. Every Sunday I come home and I am wiped out!!!
