TREC Showcases

Lexi and Ashlee are both in TREC and have so much fun. I worried about them each missing a whole day of school and then having to make up the work, along with all the work they do at TREC, but so far it's been great. They get the mind challenges that in class they sometimes don't get, and they get to do lot's of fun things in TREC also.

Lexi's showcase night was in December. She and her friend Mallory were partners and had to make up their own sport. They studied how money is involved in the sporting industry. Since my memory is not so good, I am trying to remember what her group was called- I think it was "All in the Money." She had so much fun making up this game called Voccer. It's a cross between soccer and volleyball, but played in sand. I won't try and explain the scoring system, because Darrell and I were both very confused when they told us about it- but it all made sense to the teachers- I guess we're just not quite as smart as out daughter!!:)

Everyone had concession stands since they learned a lot of money is made at sporting events through he food! This semester Lexi is going to do "Mad Scientist" and loves all the things they are learning about the solar system.

Ashlee's showcase night was a few weeks ago, and she learned about money also- it was called "Strike It Rich." They got to go on a field trip to the bank and see the difference in fake and real money, learn about all the different money mints, and what each coin and dollar are made of. For her grade they did a power point show, so here are the pictures of the power points she made.
Along with learning about money they also learned about checking accounts. They had their own check books and cash. She had a struggle balancing her checkbook- but don't we all?!
She loved learning about coins and now wants to start a coin collection. This semester she is learning about electricity and can't wait to learn wiring!

Sounds like a fun class with all kinds of cool projects. Is it like what we have in Vegas called GATE (used to be AT)?

That's so fun! I think kids now are much smarter than we were when we were kids! I'm amazed at all the things that they are learning, when we didn't learn some of it until we were much older! :)

Cool projects. Do you struggle making deadlines? I'm having the hardest time with my kids in ALPS this year. I'm ready to send them back to their neighborhood school.

TREC is like GATE in LV, or ALPS in UT. Luckily here there isn't much for the parents to do, it's all pretty much done at TREC. IT makes it much easier, the hardest thing is all the make up work.
