Lexi the Walking Pharmacy

Lexi has never had really bad seasonal allergies. Ashlee has had horrible ones since she was a brand new baby- her asthma was allergy induced. Since we never saw any signs of Lexi having allergies it was just never a worry.
Four weeks ago she told me her eyes were bothering her, and they were a little puffy. The next morning they were still swollen, but nothing major. Over the next few days her nose was really stuffy so I kept nagging her to blow it all the time so she could breathe. After a week her nose was so stuffy you could literally see her face was swollen from her sinuses being so stuffy. Her eyes were swollen, it looked like pink eye- but Claratin helped it all. After another week nothing was helping, I was even having her use the Neti pot- she was brave and did it. The stuff that was coming out made me gag, but she loved to be able to breathe when she was done. But the swelling wasn't going away- and her eyes were getting goopy.
There was a free asthma screening and since we had problems with Ashlee in the past, I wanted to check her out and Lexi with all her new issues. The doctor said Ashlee out grew her asthma- I was so GLAD! She did a breath test on me and I was ok, but really should have an inhaler- Lexi was clear down at like 50%! She looked at her eyes and told me it wasn't pink eye or an infection, it was just allergies. She told me the best over the counter medicine to use- and we ran and bought it. It worked but still didn't clear it up at all.
Finally this week I decided I needed to just take her in- I wasn't sure if her eyes were infected because they were so goopy, and I was worried she was going to get a sinus infection. Things I did not want to worry about with a new baby in the house! The doctor looked at her and just shook her head. She said she has had so many kids coming in with the glossy eye look Lexi had because the pollen count is so high right now. Here is a list of what Lexi has to take over the next 5 days.....

Zaditor (the BEST OTC eye drops!) Three times a day- thru July
Poly trim (prescription eye drops, in case she is getting an infection) three times a day
Cyprodex (ear drops) twice a day
Vera mist (nasal mist) once a day- thru July
Amoxicillin (she has the beginning of a sinus infection) twice a day- 10 days
Zyrtec- once a day- thru July

A few of these will stop after the five days, but it is so hard keeping track of what I've given her and how often!! She did say the allergy season usually starts in May and ends by June. We have had so much rain that it started in May, but it has been so rainy that things haven't bloomed yet- so this will continue into July!
I am so glad it looks like it's just seasonal allergies for her though- I was really worried she was going to have to be on steroids for asthma- figuring allergy induced asthma. But she is responding great to the medicine- she has done it for 2 days now. Her eyes look so much better, her nose is her normal size- and she is able to breathe easier through her nose. I wish I would have thought to do before and after pictures- it was incredible! Thank heaven's for medicine! I felt so bad for her!!

That sounds like no fun at all! Atleast you figured out the problem "before" little Baylee gets here...Good Luck this week! We are very excited for you!

Poor Lexi! I'm glad she's starting to feel better. Tessa has had allergies for years too, and now Jonah has started getting allergies as well. PJ has been stuffed up and coughing that past week or so, and now I'm wondering if his are allergies also! We have been going through a LOT of Zyrtec! We just buy the Walmart brand (it's about half the price), and it seems to work. Hang in there! :)

The baby is due in FOUR days. You better take notes on what you have given to her....just in case someone else has to take over!!

I feel your pain. Wes has 4 meds he has to take daily for the rest of his life. That is why we have decided to to allergy injections.
