Projects and Lexi's TREC Showcase

The end of the school year brings so many activities- it seems like everyday we are running from one activity to another! This week I forgot my camera on many occasions, but was so glad I made it to all the kids fun things. Lexi's class had a Poetry In the Park- it was a poetry reading outside with lemonade and cookies for the parents. The kids had worked so hard on memorizing a poem someone else wrote, and then memorizing one they wrote. They all did so well- I don't think there are any shy kids in Lexi's class. Lexi read A Pizza the Size of the Sun- and a friendship poem she wrote about her friend Ashley Bingham.

That night the girls had a softball game- I went and took the camera. I forgot to pull it out of my purse though! Ashlee hit each time she was up to bat again, and Lexi ended up running in the tie breaking win- how crazy is that?! The team they played was very competitive- it was all about the score. I have a hard time with teams like that- I think it's important for the kids to learn the fundamentals at this age, and more importantly to have fun. Even when things happen like Lexi running home for the tying win, the kids are just excited that the adults are cheering like crazy- they aren't competitive yet- and I love it!
Ashlee's 2nd grade was doing a fund raiser and had a lemonade stand. It was so cute- who ever made that stand did a great job! No camera though. I could only stay for a half hour and then i had to run to my doctor appointment. Not much to report from my appointment- Baylee is getting bigger and stronger, but seems very content where she is!
Later that night Lexi had her TREC showcase. She was in the Mad Scientist group this time. She had a lot of fun learning about all the different scientists and their inventions. She was kind of bummed to be assigned to a group with all boys for their final project- but they did really well. They made fossils, atom's, and germs. Her scientist they studied for the final project was William Hercshel. He invented 40 foot telescope, and discovered infrared. She also made a matching game of facts about him- we all played it. I'm so glad they have the TREC program- it really challenges my girls minds and keeps them thinking!

We had to run from the TREC showcase and take the girl's for softball pictures. Then I said good bye and ran to Enrichment.
Friday was our anniversary- but we had lot's to do before that also! I decided I wanted to make a quilt for Baylee. Darrell's Grandma had made all the kids a quilt and she has hit a point where it's hard for her to make them, so she had to stop. Baylee is the only one who wouldn't have a home made quilt so I decided I was going to try it out. I am not a crafty, sewing loving person. In all honesty I get very sick to my stomach when I have to go into the sewing section. I get sweaty and my hands get clammy- I just don't know what the heck to get in that area of the store! I braved it and found some material- with quite a bit of help form the workers and a few other ladies there! I wanted a VERY basic quilt seeing how I can't even sew a straight line! My friend Diane came over Friday and helped me get it started. My one request was I wanted to do it- I need to get over this fear and use the sewing machine that has been sitting under my cupboard for a year now! After sewing all Friday after noon, then taking the seam ripper and taking out all I had done, because it was REALLY bad! I redid it on Saturday and FINISHED!

The corners were a nightmare- crooked makes it origional!
I do have to do a few things in the middle so the material won't bunch when it's washed and I'm not a big fan of tying quilts- I like the sewn look better. So, Diane will be back to help me finish just in time for Baylee to come! I can't believe I actually did it! If you look close you will see my crooked lines- but they are not as bad as what was there at first! Thanks for your help Diane!!
I think I am finally caught up on the happenings here in the Wiser house! Like I said before, this is a little like a family journal- so sorry you guys get some boring details, but I have to record them somewhere! Here are the picture's of the playroom.

Please excuse the little girl who was being a super spy at the moment!
The lighting wasn't well so you can't see the color difference well- the khaki color and green- but you get the gist!

And I finally got the girls picture's hung up- now I have to find a matching frame for Baylee!
